The question in the Dolomites

Marco Fuhrmann rides the Würzjoch Pass. 92 km, 150 corners. That evening, he opens the RideLink app — 7,702 data points, but no answer to one question: "How far did I actually lean in the corner before Arabba?"

The first screen

An empty black screen. A map. A glowing cyan line — the route from Bressanone to Arabba. The first moment when lifeless JSON data came alive. That was the beginning of Kurvenfokus.

Corners instead of coordinates

GPS points show a route. Motorcycle riders think in corners. So came the algorithm: weeks of tinkering. In the end, it automatically detects 150 corners from 7,702 data points — each with its own dataset.

Left against right

Left corners: 28° of lean angle. Right corners: only 19°. Almost a 10° difference. A vague feeling became a clear plan. That is the heart of Kurvenfokus — the moment data turns into insight.

With Kurvenfokus, import your GPS track (GPX file) from Calimoto, Motobit, Komoot, or kurviger.de — the app automatically calculates lean angle from the GPS signal. For even more accurate values (±0.5° instead of ±5°), add MotionRecord, which records your smartphone's gyroscope at 100 Hz.
Yes. Kurvenfokus is completely free during beta — every feature, no subscription, no account. Available through TestFlight (iOS) and Google Play (Android). We'll let you know in good time about later pricing.
Kurvenfokus complements Calimoto — it doesn't replace it. Calimoto navigates you on your ride; Kurvenfokus analyzes it afterward. Just import the GPX export from Calimoto and instantly see lean angle, corner scores, and heatmap.
Both record GPS and both can be imported into Kurvenfokus. Motobit provides more detailed data (GDPR export), while Calimoto is more popular for navigation. The difference for corner analysis is small — Kurvenfokus supports both formats.
Yes. Export your ride from Calimoto as a GPX file and import it into Kurvenfokus. Calimoto Plus users can also use the GDPR data export, which includes even more detailed data.
No. Kurvenfokus calculates lean angle from your GPS track — no additional hardware needed. For racetracks or very slow corners, we recommend MotionRecord as a sensor upgrade that uses your smartphone's gyroscope.
GPS lean is based on the formula atan(v²·ω/g) — typically ±2–3° with a good GPS signal. With MotionRecord (gyroscope, 100 Hz), you get ±0.5° accuracy, even in slow corners and poor GPS reception.
No. Kurvenfokus works with every GPS track from every app — Calimoto, Komoot, Motobit, kurviger.de. MotionRecord is an optional upgrade for more precise sensor data.
Calimoto records GPS (once per second). MotionRecord records 6 sensors (up to 100 times per second). Lean angle is no longer estimated from the GPS track; it is measured by the gyroscope — much more accurately, especially in slow corners and switchbacks.
No. Kurvenfokus and MotionRecord store your recordings and rides locally on your device. No account, no login, no server upload of your ride data. Your rides belong to you — privacy by design.
Yes, completely offline. Maps are cached and analysis runs locally. You only need internet for the initial map download.
Yes. MotionRecord runs in the background while you navigate with Calimoto. The two apps do not interfere with each other.
